A Chicago man was robbed of jewelry valued at $35,000 when a meeting to discuss scouting for new rap artists turned out to be a setup for an armed robbery, police said.
The meeting was to take place between the victim and a man named 'Mike' in a building in the 200 block of Washington Street. But when the victim followed his contact into a stairwell at the back of the building about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, a man with a handgun robbed the man of his gold bracelet, a Joe Rodeo watch, a necklace, a seven-carat diamond cross, a set of four-carat diamond earrings and his cell phone, according to police reports.
