It was a glass ball as small as a pinhead. The team also found something gold. They dug around the scene with a bamboo spatula and discovered a gold ring from the Silla Kingdom (BC57-AD935) of Korea. A gold bracelet and gold and bronze ornament were also excavated, among other items. The discovery has proven that Okinoshima Island was a treasure chest along a sea lane connecting Japan with continental Asia. The location where the research team members lied down happened to be an ancient altar and the ring that was dedicated to the goddesses led to the historic discovery as if it were a divine message. Local residents have recently set up a group to take over the work of their forerunners and aim to have the island designated as a World Heritage site. The goddesses must be glad at the move.
