The victim told police the men duct taped her mouth and snatched jewelry off her body while she lay bleeding on the floor.
A gold crucifix was stolen off her neck, a diamond bracelet was ripped off her arm, her earrings were pulled from her ears and her wedding band from her deceased husband, a Navy hero, was stolen off her finger.
The thieves made off with over $8,000 in jewelry and cash.
'Theses two despicable cowards took it on their home to start beating the 87-year-old woman unmercifully,' said Brownstown Township Police Chief Dennis Richardson. 'At that age, she's so frail, they could have sat her down demanded the jewelry from her and I am sure she would have gladly provided it to her.'
The victim, whose name is not being released, was able to stumble to a neighbor's home and call for help.
She was taken to an area hospital and later transferred to a trauma hospital in Detroit, where she remains hospitalized.
