For the first time, nurses from Athens to Andalusia will use the same system to identify people with allergies (red bracelet), trouble standing (yellow) and do-not-resuscitate orders (purple).

Officials at the Alabama Hospital Association say the change should help eliminate some of the confusion faced by doctors and nurses who circulate among multiple hospitals with different ways of identifying high-risk patients. Several other states already have standardized hospital wristband colors
