Here are questions parents should ask doctors who suspect a child may have allergies.
How do you know my child has nasal allergies? How can you confirm the diagnosis?
What are the best over-the-counter or prescription medicines for my child, and what side effects should I watch for?
Does my child also need allergy shots (immunotherapy), further allergy testing, or other allergy treatment?
Is there anything else I should be doing to help control the allergies, such as dusting the house more often or taking other environmental measures?
If my child develops a cough, especially at night, could that be related to nasal allergies?
How can I tell the difference between my child having allergy symptoms and having a cold?
We have pets. Do they make treating allergies more difficult?
Should my child carry a dose of epinephrine or wear a medical alert bracelet?
Which allergy symptoms are serious enough to call the doctor and schedule a visit?
At what point should my child see an allergist in addition to a pediatrician for allergy treatment?

Bishopville Club informed on Project LifeSaver

BISHOPVILLE Local officials are interested in utilizing a missing-person search system specifically designed for autistic children and adults with dementia or Alzheimers.
Gordon Harris, Project LifeSaver coordinator for Horry Countys Department of Public Safety, presented an overview of the program at Thursdays meeting of the Pilot Club of Bishopville.
Harris said Project LifeSavers primary function is to locate individuals who wander off from where they are supposed to be. Individuals will wear a bracelet and law enforcement will have receivers and equipment needed to find the person, Harris said.
Bishopville Police Chief John Ewing said representatives from his department, the Lee County Sheriffs Office, fire and emergency management departments will meet to review the program and determine the availability of resources to fund the project.
The estimated cost of the equipment includes $8,000 for one receiver and $300 for each bracelet, officials said.
