After John McCain spoke about wearing a bracelet given to him by the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq, Matthew Stanley, Obama noted that he had his own bracelet given to him by Tracy Jopek, mother of Ryan Jopek, another soldier killed in Iraq. It was later revealed, though, that Mrs. Jopek had asked Obama not to talk about the bracelet in future speeches or debates when she contacted his campaign back in February. But much like his promise to accept public financing for his campaign, Barack Obama's pledge to Tracy Jopek became another victim of his quest for our nation's highest office.
